Depression Treatment

Depression can leave you feeling numb and exhausted to the world around you, until you’re just moving through the motions of daily life. This treatment brings you into both greater awareness of and alignment with your emotions. Beneficial therapeutic techniques include, but are not limited to: mindfulness, CBT, music therapy, and Neurofeedback.

Stress Management

In today’s world we deal with many challenges such as work, school, parenting, family, and even friends. Plainly, life can be stressful and overwhelming. This stress can impact many areas of life from our mental health and friendships to our ability to perform at work or school, and even our physical health. Therapy such as sandtray and CBT have been proven to help us cope better with these everyday stresses.

Self-Regulation

Self-regulation (self-reg) is one’s ability to react to the brain and body’s responses to stress. Self-reg not only includes our ability to respond to the expenditure of our energy as well as our recovery, but also it gives us the skills needed to up-regulate (get us going) or down regulate (calm down), depending on the situation. Self-regulation therapy allows you to forge new neural pathways for the next time you encounter the same stress within a safe space.

Anxiety Treatment

Anxiety thrives on fear and what-ifs that then paralyze you with stress, making already tense and challenging situations worse. Managing anxiety involves uncovering the distorted patterns of thought that cause the anxiety in the first place and slowly reducing the stress levels to a functional amount through methods such as mindfulness, CBT, EMDR, or Neurofeedback.

PTSD and Trauma Treatment

EMDR has proven to be highly effective at rewriting these traumatic memories, taking away their sting. Other therapy methods, such as (but not limited to) Neurofeedback, CBT, or mindfulness can augment this.

Adults

Modern life is more stressful than it has ever been, and struggling to keep up with it is a steadily more common experience. With Supportive Steps’ client-focused approach, we understand every person is different, so our approach is tailored to each individual. The methods to help them may differ, but the end result is always to give them the tools to reach resilience and mental strength.

Children/Teens

We guide children and teens in exploring their emotions and memories in a safe and supportive environment through expressive therapeutic methods such as play therapy and sandtray therapy. All the while, they’re building a foundation of mindfulness and awareness of who they are and who they would like to become to help them later in life.

How Can Therapy Help Me/My Child?

The more we are not aware of our thoughts, feelings, motives, and behaviours, the more they control us. Therapy helps people understand their “stories”; the experiences that have shaped them, their protectors that helped them get through challenges, and the patterns or habits that are now preventing them from living the way they would like. It is an exploration where the therapist walks alongside the person, helping them to unscramble and make sense of the information they share.

Booking your first session takes three easy steps:
1. Click the Book a Call button at the top of the page or contact us directly to book a free 15-minute consult where we will discuss your hopes and needs.
2. Create your collaborative treatment plan with your therapist at your first session.
3. Begin your journey to mental strength and resilience.

During the first session, we will begin to explore life for you or your child. We will explore things such as your/your child’s challenges, history, family history, coping skills, and strengths. We may also complete some assessments that may be beneficial in reaching certain goals. This exploration may take several sessions depending on the history and challenges you want to address for yourself/your child.

Everyone’s journey is different. Some people may reach their established goals within only a few sessions, while others may be working on recurring life patterns or traumatic events which may benefit from more long-term support. Based on your hopes and challenges, we will come up with a plan together to help you reach your goals.

Appointments are 50 minutes in length (45-50 minutes for children), with the last 10 minutes of the hour being for rescheduling and admin work.
